Hey Mark! Thank you for your comments. I agree wholeheartedly that we need to be acting in a manner that reflects Jesus and that it should be done with the purpose of serving the people we are there to serve – whether long-term or short. I believe that short-term mission trips are a great way to get our feet wet and should always be approached with a humble, learning attitude. I will definitely check out the link to the website you provided and encourage others to do the same.

Sorry – my first comment was messed up – here’s what it was supposed to be…!

I agree that short-term trips can be very beneficial to all involved. But on the other hand I wouldn’t want to encourage everyone to go on any “mission trip” that they can, as I think there is a lot of potential for damage to be done amongst the community when trips are done badly.

Unfortunately going with good intentions isn’t always enough – we need to make sure that we’re acting in a way that reflects Jesus and that the trip honours and serves the local church and community. I think when we’re talking about short-term trips, the key is really your #2 – to go with a humble and learning attitude.
